The Over-35 Woman’s Guide to Surviving Perimenopause Season

Perimenopause season can be a time known for unpredictable changes - physically, emotionally, and mentally. From fluctuating moods to restless nights, this transition often feels like a wild ride with no seatbelt.
For women over 35 navigating hormonal shifts, perimenopause can be especially challenging. You're likely to encounter energy crashes, stubborn weight gain, irritability, night sweats, brain fog, and a general sense of "not feeling like yourself." These symptoms can disrupt your rhythm and shake your confidence. That’s why having a solid, hormone-friendly strategies in place is crucial.
And so I’ve created one for you!
Strategy 1: Support Your Circadian Rhythm
During perimenopause, it's crucial to maintain a steady sleep-wake cycle and gently support your body’s natural rhythm. Neglecting this can lead to fatigue, increased cortisol levels, and even worsened hormone imbalance.
How to Implement
Think about winding down earlier in the evening. Start by dimming the lights around 9pm, avoiding screens at least 60 minutes before bed, and setting a consistent sleep schedule - even on weekends. Magnesium, herbal teas like chamomile, and a calm bedtime routine can go a long way.
Strategy 2: Balance Blood Sugar Throughout the Day
Perimenopause often means your body becomes more sensitive to sugar spikes, leading to mood swings, cravings, and energy dips. Balancing blood sugar helps reduce inflammation, stabilize your mood, and prevent hormonal chaos.
How to Implement
Begin by building meals around protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Try not to skip meals and eat 20+ grams of protein within an hour of waking to avoid that mid-morning crash. Keep boiled eggs, nuts, boiled eggs, or a clean protein bar on hand for on-the-go balance.
Strategy 3: Say “No” (Without Guilt!)
Women in midlife often take on too much - careers, family, aging parents - and forget themselves in the process. This season is the perfect time to start saying "no" to what drains you and "yes" to what supports your healing.
How to Implement
Each week, take 10 minutes to review your commitments. Ask yourself: Does this bring me peace or pressure? Begin with small no’s - like skipping an extra Zoom meeting or choosing a quiet evening over a social event you’re dreading. Practicing “no” can makes powerful shifts.
Bonus Tips for Perimenopause Season for Women Over 35
💧 Stay Hydrated
Hormones depend on hydration to function properly. Even mild dehydration can worsen fatigue, brain fog, and bloating. Aim for half your body weight in ounces of water per day and consider adding electrolytes (without sugar) for extra support.
🏃♀️ Move in a Way That Feels Good
Your body needs movement, but not punishment. Walking, Pilates, stretching, and strength training are all hormone-friendly. These forms of exercise help regulate cortisol and improve insulin sensitivity - two key players in hormone harmony.
