Fix My Fatigue: Where to Start

Today we’re diving into one of the biggest complaints I hear from women over 35: fatigue- exhaustion. Not just tired. Not just needing a nap. I’m talking about that heavy, bone-deep exhaustion that no amount of sleep, coffee, or motivation seems to fix.

If this sounds like you - listen up! We’re going to walk through what’s really behind your fatigue and where to start when your body feels like it’s running on empty.

What is Midlife Fatigue?

Let’s first define what this kind of fatigue is. Midlife fatigue isn't just the result of being busy. It's often a symptom of internal imbalance.

When I say fatigue, I mean:

· Waking up tired even after 8 hours of sleep

· Needing caffeine to function or stay awake in the afternoon

· Feeling overwhelmed by basic tasks

· Struggling to focus, remember things, or stay patient with your kids

Fatigue in midlife is often the result of your body being out of rhythm - and hormones play a big role in that rhythm.

Four Hidden Fatigue Factors:

Let’s go deeper into four key systems that might be zapping your energy:

1. Adrenal Dysfunction

o These glands regulate your stress response.

o Chronic stress, even low-grade, can wear them down over time.

o Signs: you feel wired but tired, you wake up at 2am, you get dizzy standing up quickly.

2. Blood Sugar Imbalance

o Most women eat too many carbs and not enough protein.

o This causes energy crashes and irritability.

o Signs: headaches, mid-morning fatigue, intense sugar cravings.

3. Poor Sleep Quality

o Falling asleep isn’t the same as staying asleep.

o Hormones like cortisol, progesterone, and melatonin affect sleep cycles.

o Signs: light sleep, waking up at 3am, feeling groggy all day.

4. Thyroid Issues

o Low thyroid hormone can mimic depression and fatigue.

o TSH is not enough - get a full panel.

o Signs: cold hands/feet, constipation, weight gain, hair loss.

Small Changes That Create Big Shifts!

Now let’s get to what you can actually do, starting today. You don’t need to overhaul your life - you need to take targeted action:

1. Adrenals - Take a 10-minute break mid-morning to breathe, journal, or simply rest. Your nervous system will thank you.

2. Blood Sugar - Eat 20-30g of protein within an hour of waking. Pair carbs with healthy fats and protein at meals.

3. Sleep - Turn off screens 30-60 minutes before bed. Try magnesium glycinate or a calming tea before sleep.

4. Thyroid - Request a full thyroid panel: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies.

My Own Fatigue Story

I remember a season where I was running on fumes. I would teach my clients about energy, but be crashing behind the scenes. It wasn’t until I took a full thyroid panel and started supporting my adrenals and more that I got my energy back - and now, I help women just like you do the same.
